Hybrid And Electric Vehicles vs. The Enviroment
Automobiles are an asset to our culture,
although it destroys our nature. We use vehicles on a day to day basis and this
is slowly causing our ozone layer to deteriorate. In the late nineteenth
century, the automobile had just been invented which opened new doors for
various things. These vehicles were steam engines and Henry Ford was the first
manufacture of automobiles. After steam engines, came in the combustion engines
which require a fossil fuel and emits gasses. Although steam engines were used
for a much smaller time frame than combustion engines they had their fair share
of effect on the ozone layer as well. Research has shown nearly half of air
pollution is caused by mobile sources, primarily automobiles.
Although the air pollution from vehicles has gone down since the 1970's it poses a humongous threat because mobile use is continuously going up. We have found alternate ways to propel our vehicles besides burning fossil fuels. These alternate ways include; hybrid and electric. Hybrid vehicles are a combination of a combustion engine and an electric engine. This combination allows the car to switch to electric mode when it is using minimal power and when the car is at idle, like at a red light. As you pull off from the red light or give it more gas the combustion engine switches back on allowing it to accelerate more so than in electric mode. Also the car recharges itself with friction by using the braking system as that method. Moving on to the fully electric car, which has no emissions at all. It has an electric motor that propels the car which cuts down on the overall use of fossil fuels tremendously. Essentially, electric cars are like a cell phone with wheels. You unplug it take it where you need to go and when you get done using it, just bring it back and plug it back up to the wall. If everyone that owns a combustion vehicle switches to a fully electric vehicle, it would eliminate the problem of air pollution by mobile vehicles all together.
I'm not saying it would eliminate air pollution and save the ozone layer completely and permanently. But research does show it would enhance our environment and atmosphere therefore prolonging life on our planet.
